4 Areas Most People Forgot to Clean

Blog

When cleaning your home yourself, you most likely dust, vacuum, and clean your counters and surfaces in the rooms that are most often used. However, there are probably a lot of things you aren't cleaning. Some of these areas are very important as they can affect the air in your home as well as the large appliances in your home. Read on for a few areas many people forget to clean and why you should remember and clean the areas regularly.

1. Beneath and Behind Your Appliances

These areas are hardly ever cleaned. Not everyone thinks about pulling out their refrigerator to clean under and behind it, the same probably goes for the washer, dryer, and stove. If you don't clean beneath or behind these areas, you could be opening yourself up to damaging these appliances, as they can stop working due to the amount of dust and dirt buildup. At least every six months, you should pull out these appliances and clean all around them. Also, be sure to clean the top of them because it can accumulate a lot of dust as well.

2. Air Vents

The vents around your home should also be cleaned fairly often. You should give these vents a good clean with the vacuum hose extension. Every couple of years, you should remove the vents to clean them with soap and water to remove dust and dander buildup. All of this extra dust can be causing extra dust to blow around your home, which can make the air harder to breathe, especially for those who already have breathing difficulties.

3. Window Sills

When you open up your windows, the last thing you want to see is filthy dirt inside the window sills. There's most likely a buildup of mildew and dead bugs. This should be part of your spring cleaning routine, to go room to room cleaning these window sills. Do it often enough, and you won't have so much of a buildup. This mildew buildup can also lead to mold, which can also disturb people with breathing issues such as asthma. Clean your window sills warm water, mild dish soap, and a large sponge. Wipe the window sill to get in between all of the cracks and to remove the buildup of dirt.

4. Blinds

If you have blinds in your home, think about the last time you dusted them or gave them a good cleaning. If you thought about it and came up with never as your answer, then it's time to clean them. The easiest way to clean them is to remove them from the window and soak them in a bathtub filled with water and soap. Allow them to soak, then rinse them off and hang them outside to dry. Do this at least once per year.

These areas don't need to be cleaned as part of your weekly schedule, but you should remember these areas when you deep clean your home. If you aren't up for these deep cleaning sessions, or simply don't have the time to clean your home on a regular basis, hire a professional house cleaning service for help with these or other tasks.
